The period of political exile was a distinct chapter in the lives of the exiled fighters of the Democratic Army of Greece. The thousands of political refugees received organized reception and support for their studies, work, and housing. They lived through an extremely difficult period, as exile was a forced choice. The main problem was the separation from their loved ones. Adaptation to the new conditions was a challenge. Rural children or of working-class origin, mostly young men and women, were called upon to live and create in a radically different environment, to learn language, profession, and to study. Accustomed to hardship, they managed to conquer new fortresses in knowledge and creative work in the conditions of socialist construction.

An example of this is Kostas Tatsis, who lived in the USSR for 40 years. He worked in many branches of production, received political party education, and emerged as a pioneer of technological advancement in the field of telecommunications and television signal transmission in various regions of the USSR, mainly in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. At the same time, he experienced all the changes that strengthened the counter-revolution, created the ground for the reinforcement of elements of the old society in the new society, and finally led to capitalist restoration, with the final act being the dissolution of the USSR in 1991.
