Description

The narrative of the Transition reminds of a thriller. The French would define it as "dark" or "hard". So it couldn't have a happy ending. It starts brightly, then darkens, and follows the deep night of the crisis. Initially, Konstantinos Karamanlis initiates a democratic transition that becomes a model for other countries, beyond our continent. But here the good news ends. Greece now falls into the hands of an old gang of politicians who dominated before the abhorrent dictatorship. The political life does not renew.

Karamanlis abandons New Democracy in its bad self. Andreas Papandreou, the most talented of politicians, proves to be populist and derails the economy. Mitsotakis is inadequate and outdated. Simitis and Kostas Karamanlis are missed opportunities. In the face of the crisis, George Papandreou is fatal. Samaras, a politician of other times, fails. Tsipras tries to mature, at a heavy cost for the country. Politicians and parties are discredited. And the country? It drags itself with a failed state, with an inadequate political personnel, and with a self-destructive culture of polarization.
