In our days there is a constantly increasing interest in Byzantine painting. This is expressed practically through international exhibitions, conferences, and the writing of valuable studies. This reality imposes, in our opinion, the in-depth study of the relevant sources and the philological testimonies that are preserved from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine period. In this context, this book is included, in which an effort is made to study analytically and thoroughly aspects and perspectives of the interpretation of the art of painting, a book written in the early decades of the 18th century by the Aghiorite Dionysios from Fournas of Evrytania. This book, a significant and valuable source of information on the history, technology, aesthetics, and iconography of Byzantine iconographic art, is examined with the particularly specialized perspective of the contemporary iconographer, who seeks a more creative relationship with the tradition of iconographic art.
