As prolific as he was, Sri Aurobindo did not limit himself to writing his philosophical works. His extensive correspondence with students and followers of his Integral Yoga is now an important part of his collected works.

"Work can be of two kinds: as a field of experience used for Sadhana, for a progressive harmonization and transformation of existence and its activities, and work which is the embodied expression of the Divine. But the time for the latter can come only when the Manifestation has descended fully into terrestrial consciousness. Until then, every work must be a field of effort and a school of experiences."

Already, while he was still alive, anthologies with his answers were being printed, and one of them was "Light on Yoga". It includes excerpts from Sri Aurobindo's letters to his students, where he thoroughly answers their questions and doubts.

"Light on Yoga" was created and classified with the purpose of serving as a guide for aspiring spiritual practitioners to understand and practice Yoga.
