"My little one, always remember; once a patch is made, it cannot be undone. Look, though, it looks like new. Patching is an art."
"And what exactly does patching mean? And why not buy something new? Since you have so much money," wondered Nora.
"Patching is the repair of something that broke, but you don't want to part with it or you can't part with it. Patching is an art, my little one. It is a gift; to be able to change something that is now old or defective and make it again so that you like it."
Nora, baptized Eleonora, the illegitimate daughter of Michael Chiotellis, learns the art of patching in her father's house in Mytilene, around the mid-1800s. However, she does not patch her clothes; she patches the sorrows of her life, starting with her name. Only the name, because as an illegitimate child she has no surname. This talent helps her survive the hardships that strike the island and turn her life upside down, to face the people who hurt her, starting with her brother, to give herself to love without considering moral rules, and finally to obtain what she always desired: an identity. However, every patch has a price. And Nora pays for them all; all thirteen patches. Because that's how many she needed to make.

Fantastic book with a wonderful love story that keeps the interest until the end. I should also note that it is very easy to read with fairly large letters for me, who struggle with small letters and crowded alignment in some books.
One of the best in its category. I highly recommend it. Bravo to the author.
