What happened when a small nation decided to escape from the permanent debt servitude that was desertifying their country?
The "Invincible Defeated" are all those who in 2015 overcame the fear of the deep establishment and brought about the "Greek Spring". Yanis Varoufakis' book sheds light on the methodical way in which the "Greek Spring" was defeated, with the collateral damage being the devaluation and gradual dismantling of the European Union (Brexit, etc.). However, it also highlights something else: Despite their defeat, the "Greek Spring" of the Invincible Defeated laid the foundations for a "European Spring", thus emerging as a wise investment in the future of a sustainable Greece within a democratic Europe, for which it is worth fighting.
Dedicated to those who strive for an honest, reasonable compromise but prefer to be flattened rather than end up compromised, Yanis Varoufakis' book has at least three readings:
- A chronicle of the events of 2015, when the country's creditors risked the integrity of Europe to perpetuate their unlawful power, extending the generalized bankruptcy of Greek society indefinitely.
- A narration of yet another "episode" in Greek history where the division of the internal front led to defeat.
- A record of fascinating discussions with people who shape our destinies, such as Wolfgang Schäuble, Christine Lagarde, Mario Draghi, Emmanuel Macron, Barack Obama.
Perhaps the most interesting reading, however, revolves around another, entirely different axis that more closely resembles ancient or Shakespearean tragedy: A deep dive into the drama of people with great power, who nevertheless end up as helpless creatures caught in the trap set by their institutional power.
On August 31, 2019, Costa-Gavras' film "Adults in the Room", based on the book, premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
In the preface of the new edition, we read the director's letter to the author in July 2015, where he writes, among other things: "[...] I believe I have found what I have been searching for a long time: the subject of a film, a drama, about a Europe governed by a group of cynical people disconnected from human, political, and cultural concerns. People who are obsessed with specific numbers, and only with them. [...] I want to emphasize that, while it will concern Greece, the film will be universal".

For any Greek thinking of voting for Syriza again, they should read about what was happening behind our backs and how Alexis truly became a pawn of internal party conflicts and lost the vision of overturning. I still wonder about the reason for the existence of this party today. As for the European lobby and how they blackmailed us.. the details are chilling and reading them really makes you regret deeply any hesitation you may have had about whether or not we should stay in this rotten "union".
For those who want to learn about the mechanisms of the EU and how they undermine any effort for real unification.
Finally, a person with technical knowledge and political conscience informs us about the events of the Greek spring.

Very good choice...
In theory we can all do it, but what can we actually do? Until the last page, it did not say.
