The book was written in order to explore the historical journey of the many "absent" Jews of Thessaloniki. Zana, Gambi, Into, Gracia, and the other protagonists of the work (because for me, all the narrators of the story are protagonists) remind us of the historical memory of a world that was violently exterminated but unjustly forgotten. They raise various issues, first and foremost the indifference of many fellow citizens towards the fate of their neighbors, but also the practical support shown by others at the same time. And then love..., the love that exists, the love that prevails, even in the conditions of extreme misery, when most are persecuted, when almost everyone is fighting, when the majority is being exterminated, but, above all, when the minority survives. And migration, a persistent condition of life for the Jewish people, but also for many other peoples who are tested.
