The wise Lao Tse was born under a peach tree, touched by a shooting star. He was a scholar, a traveler, and the emperor's archivist in China. Just before he disappeared forever, riding on a blue buffalo, he whispered to a guard of the Great Wall of China the essence of his wisdom: the book of the Way (Tao) and the book of Virtue (Te). These two poetic texts, known as Tao Te Ching, contain in their verses the basic principles of Taoism, the concept of Yin and Yang, and the famous Path of Non-Action.
