[...] "The Lemon Grove" (1930), which marks the first appearance of Kosmas Politis in literature, is a story written in the first person, in the form of a diary. It covers the same period as the events mentioned and narrates the youthful love between Pavlos, the central character, a young man with a successful career, full of zest for life and a desire to enjoy his youth, and Virgo, the young girl from Poros who gradually adapts and literally "prepares" to embody the reality of the absolute love she experiences in Pavlos' presence.

The reader follows not only the events that surround Pavlos' journey between Athens and Poros, but mainly his internal journey towards the fulfillment of his love desire, his entrapment between physical and spiritual love, and ultimately his escape, his mental resignation from life long before physical death - the ultimate resignation in the face of the fear that raises, just as absolutely, "the monster of reality"...
