Description

With the title "Cyprus in the Crosshairs", the new book by journalist and author Dimitris Konstantakopoulos is released by "Infognomon" Publications, with a foreword by former Greek Ambassador to Nicosia, Themis Stoforopoulos.

The book also includes the dramatic personal appeal of Mikis Theodorakis to the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister for Cyprus, titled "No to the New Crime!", as well as the opinion of distinguished Greek constitutional law professor George Kasimatis, President of the International Association of Constitutional Law, former Director of the Prime Minister's Legal Office, Andreas Papandreou, on the Geneva Conference.

Both Mikis Theodorakis and the author highlight the danger of new, irreparable national disasters, as a result of the acceptance by Athens and Nicosia of the Turkish proposal for the convergence of the Pentamerous Conference, as well as the positions supported by the Greek and Cypriot governments attending it. The author analyzes these positions in detail, concluding that they inevitably lead to the collapse of the Cypriot Republic. He argues that the official rhetoric of the Greek and Cypriot governments regarding Turkish troops and guarantees is nothing more than another and even more dangerous attempt to deceive and mislead the Greek people, like "There is Money" and "We Tear Up the Memoranda", but now in the field of foreign policy.

The author analyzes why, after the Greek "economic experiment" of the Loans and the Memoranda, now comes, in many respects as its continuation, a Cypriot "geopolitical experiment" and what will be its possible and tragic consequences not only for Cyprus, but also for Greece.
In the 238 pages of the book, Mr. Konstantakopoulos analyzes the reasons why the Geneva Conference is a coup, with the aim of bypassing and overturning the will of the Cypriot citizens and with the ultimate goal of overthrowing the democratic regime on the island and the Cypriot state itself, and the alienation of the island's sovereignty from its inhabitants. He refers to the two historical precedents of the Conferences of 1955 and 1959, while presenting the recent developments in the Middle East and the EU, explaining how the Conference is part of the established - but also "updated" - aims of Anglo-American policy in Cyprus, an island of immense global strategic importance, the same aims that led to the tragedy of 1974 in the past. He also examines in detail the role of Henry Kissinger both in 1974 and today.
