The pounding and the noise reached a peak - in the middle of the day, when people want to rest after lunch.
A woman shouted from the threshold of her gate:

They stopped immediately, right there in the cloud of dust, the two who were running in front and those who were dragging the pump and the others who were accompanying with shouts and screams. The wind carried the dust along with mixed scraps of paper.
The leader pushed his golden tin helmet back a bit and rested his fists on his hips.

The children started jeering:
