Description
Cultural poetry sees the literary text as a point of convergence of different discourses and functions as an interactive framework that integrates, abstracts, and composes social, historical, political, and stylistic quests in the field of Greek prose literature and beyond. This book offers alternative perspectives of prose writers and new readings of texts in modern Greek prose literature from independence to the present day, posing new questions and recontextualizing literary texts within their own era and ours. It focuses on critical moments in Greek prose production, seeking to approach authors, texts, and literary trends within a broader cultural framework, whether through interpretation or ethical challenge. Some chapters focus on general phenomena or developments within a period, while others deal with individual authors or texts. The textual transformations of "Queen Ioanna" and "The Story of a Prisoner" are discussed, as well as major authors such as Kazantzakis, Theotokas, Karagatsis, Vasilikos, Hatzis, and others. Starting from the romanticism of the novel, we end up in the prose literature of the post-dictatorship era and from modernism to the nouveau roman.
The general and the specific alternate and complement each other, exploring transitions, political narratives, and cultural allegories.
