Description

In November 1946, a Parisian publisher released the novel of an unknown author named Vernon Sullivan, with the clarification: "translated from American by Boris Vian". "I Spit on Your Graves" immediately caused scandal and soon became one of the most famous long sellers of the twentieth century. This was contributed by the erotic-sadistic art of its "translator", the lawsuit for offending public morals filed against him by a puritanical society, and finally, a real crime of passion, where the murderer left a copy of the book next to the body of his lover as a signature!
The subject of the book is well-known: a black man seeks revenge for the lynching of his brother by raping and killing white American girls (his brother was unjustly accused of rape).
The fame of the book is mainly linked to the author's ability to skillfully activate various American writing stereotypes (such as thriller or pulp fiction), cinematic techniques (such as subjective camera), as well as social stereotypes of American mythology: tough males who drink and kill easily, intersecting in a whirlwind action with seductive female man-eaters. And all of this, in a wild rhythm that successfully incorporates the beat of Dixieland jazz.
Through these choices, the book wisely handles the issue of social injustice, and by extension, vigilante justice, while at the same time, on a second, psychological level, dramatically highlighting the underground kinship that connects the perpetrator with the victim when the circumstances of their encounter are dictated by social violence.

"I Spit on Your Graves", one of the most "angry" and anti-racist books ever written, is a passionate blues that blends sexual fantasy with the deepest existential anguish.
