This text was delivered in July 2000 at the Sorbonne, as part of the four-day meeting of the General Orders of Psychoanalysis on the occasion of the centenary of the publication of the founding psychoanalytic Freudian text "The Interpretation of Dreams". Here Jacques Derrida will highlight the radical relationship between psychoanalysis and ethics, law, and politics, through the treatment of the concepts of resistance, brutality, and sovereignty. Among the many topics addressed, the legitimization of the institutional establishment of Psychoanalytic Societies and groups, the problem of mourning, war and peace, the deconstruction of sovereignty, human rights, the death penalty, death and life instincts, the right to life, and survival stand out.
