Aristophanes is the great creator of ancient Greek comedy, a man who with poetic grace, impressive freedom of speech, and a critical disposition satirized the wrongs of his place and time. Although he draws his themes from his contemporary data, he has captured the timelessness of human problems.

From his rich work, eleven comedies have been preserved: "Thesmophoriazusae", "Acharnians", "Knights", "Clouds", "Wasps", "Peace", "Birds", "Lysistrata", "Frogs", "Assemblywomen", "Wealth".
