The volume includes the important work of characterization by the most prominent student and friend of Aristotle. In the "Characters," various human types parade in front of the reader's eyes, such as "The Flatterer," "The Unfeeling," "The Sophist," who respond to the comedies of Menander and other great comic playwrights of the New Comedy.

The volume is complemented by the biography of the philosopher by Diogenes Laërtius, as well as by the papyrus remains of the work "On the Cynical Boasting" by Ariston of Ceos, which is an imitation of the Theophrastian "Characters."
