The history of the Christian religion has remarkable similarities with the modern socialist movement. Christianity is a movement of the oppressed and the poor. Both Christianity and socialism are persecuted and slandered because they preach redemption from the misery of mankind. Their followers are despised as people who cannot be protected by the law, because they are considered enemies of the state, the family, religion, and social order. Despite these persecutions, however, Christianity and socialism move forward irresistibly.
