In this edition, four texts by F. Engels and one text by K. Marx are included, regarding pre-capitalist social evolution. Engels' texts are published for the first time in Greek, while Marx's text is in a new translation.

These texts belong to the later period of the lives and thoughts of the two founders of communist ideology. While in their early works of the 1840s they formulated the fundamental principles of the materialistic conception of history, here they employ these principles for a more detailed study of the periods of social evolution that preceded the capitalist society.

The ideas of Engels and Marx on these matters were utilized both in the confrontation with the bourgeois historiography of the time and in the deepening of the political intervention of the labor parties.
