Description

Texts written in the last three years that have as their main theme "national populism", as an ideological-political movement that has experienced significant development in recent years. Andreas Pantazopoulos records the course of a political and ideological movement, its strategies and objectives, from 2013 to the present.

What is the cause and how should we interpret the rise of left-wing national populism in Greece? What are the ideological and political relations of Greek left-wing populism with similar international experiences, such as Podemos or Chavism? How can we explain the SYRIZA-ANEL coalition government? Are the promises of SYRIZA "lies" or "delusions"? Can SYRIZA evolve into a social democratic party? What is ultimately the "essence" of left-wing national populism?

These are reflections that follow on from what he stated in his previous book, Left-wing National Populism, 2008-2013. The author follows the evolution and transformations of this political movement, which, from being in opposition, has been in power since January 2015. He analyzes the choice of the peculiar coalition between the Left and a party of the so-called radical Right, ANEL, something that "betrays" the fundamental condition of national populist radicalism in general, its nuclear transgressive character, through the denial of the Left-Right divide.

At the same time, the author highlights the complexity of the phenomenon under examination and the fact that it is not addressed through moral exorcism. As he aptly states, "the effective defense of the principles of liberal, representative democracy, which is the 'enemy' of national populism, presupposes politics, it does not abolish it. Its abolition becomes the fertile ground of national populism."
