Description

Laskarina Bouboulina was born in 1771 in a damp prison in Constantinople. She grew up amidst wealth, in Spetses. At seventeen, she married the wealthy captain Dimitris Giannouzas but soon became a widow. Her second husband, Dimitrios Bouboulis, adored her and taught her to love the sea and the adventurous life.

Extremely wealthy and dynamic, she was loved and hated like no other Greek woman of her time. Her fame surpassed the borders of Turkish-occupied Greece, and European newspapers depicted sketches of her. The Tsar offered her his protection when the High Gate pursued her. The powerful Valide Sultan, mother of Mahmud II, granted her favor, and History awarded her a prominent place in its pages.

The entire story of the woman who loved, was passionately loved, and fought for the freedom of Greece.
