Many claim that Franz Kafka's "Letters to Felice" is the best thing the author ever wrote in his life, because they are spontaneous, sincere, and highly revealing texts.
Kafka met Felice Bauer in 1912 at the home of his friend Max Brod. Their dense correspondence (we only have the letters he wrote), gave the Nobel Prize-winning author the opportunity to write a penetrating, intelligent essay about the author from Prague, which is now considered a classic.
Kafka and Felice were engaged twice, in 1914 and 1917. Before the dissolution of their first engagement, the Bauer family set up a kind of court in Berlin, on which the creator of "The Metamorphosis" relied to write his own "Trial," an iconic novel that made him internationally known.
