Analysis, zoom, ISO, Viewfinder... Do I need to know them?
Practically, you don't need any special knowledge of photography, as the majority of settings, such as focus, flash activation, are done automatically when taking a photo.
Below you can see some basic concepts:
- Resolution
It shows us how many megapixels (Mp) the camera uses to capture a photo. It should be noted that more Mp does not necessarily mean better photo quality. Cases where high resolution is needed include printing photos in a very large size (e.g. wall poster) or subsequent editing through a program.
Tip: 10-15 Mp is enough to print photos in good quality.
- Optical Zoom
Almost all lenses of modern digital cameras have the ability to focus (zoom) at various distances. The optical zoom is related to the camera lens, as opposed to the digital zoom. The higher the value (3x, 6x, 20x, etc.), the more our camera can focus on an object that is far away without reducing the quality of the photo. The digital zoom (also known by various other terms such as "intelligent zoom") is performed through software by our camera and essentially enlarges the image, while there is a visible loss of resolution (it works like zooming in on an image on our computer).
- Image Stabilization
Reduces the effects of camera shake, providing clearer photos.
- Viewfinder
The viewfinder is particularly useful in cases where reading the LCD screen is difficult to impossible (e.g. intense sunlight).

HDMI
Compact Cameras with an HDMI port can transfer HD image and sound through a single cable to devices that have this capability.
Tip: We can display our videos and photos directly from the camera to a TV that supports HDMI, enjoying the size and quality of its image.
Wi-Fi
A camera with Wi-Fi receiver has the ability to transfer files wirelessly either to other devices (e.g. tablet, laptop) or to an online storage service (cloud storage - e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive). Additionally, some cameras with built-in Wi-Fi allow for direct uploading of photos to social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok.
Of course, let's not forget that there are also Compact Cameras that you can use in the sea for underwater photography!
