The kaftans you won't stop wearing this year at the beach
Kaftans occupy us every summer season and not without reason.
Major fashion houses make sure to include them in their collections and creatively renew their appearance by creating even formal looks. Basically, kaftans have a more casual aesthetic, but in recent years it has been redefined with the priests of style and fashion influencers choosing them for their luxury vacations for statement appearances.
About the history...
The kaftan is an elegant, airy dress made of cotton or silk. Many years ago, kaftans were traditional Persian garments and were associated with Eastern culture. Variations of them are considered to be tunics, which were typical men's clothing in Ancient Rome and Greece. Their name derives from the Turkish word "kaftan" and the Persian word "qaftan", both of which according to the dictionary mean "long tunic that was the official men's garment in the East".
Kaftans quickly found their way to the West as ethnic pieces. They made their appearance during the 1960s, when flower children wore them as a reaction to the "restrictive and serious style" of the time. Their popularity in the fashion industry was so great that in 1967 they reached the cover of Vogue, with style icon Marisa Berenson adorning the first page wearing gold and pink kaftans. Even in Greece, these garments found admirers. They mainly occupied the music scene, as they became the distinctive attire of the rock band "Aphrodite's Child" and the internationally recognized Greek singer Demis Roussos.
