The Rogue Prince of Persia: The roguelite PoP coming from Evil Empire

The Prince of Persia series has very specific characteristics that we see passing from generation to generation and after the release of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown in early 2024, it's time for a new title, this time significantly different. Ubisoft has commissioned an external partner to create a game that resembles the old classic Prince of Persia, but follows more modern patterns in terms of gameplay.

So it ended up at the Evil Empire, the studio that dealt with the expansion packages of Dead Cells, with this recent work stealing the show. The Rogue Prince of Persia will be released in Early Access format for PC (via Steam) on May 14th, and is expected to be released in its final form and in console versions. For now, however, we do not know anything related. The game comes with the familiar fast-paced action rhythm that combines track navigation and combat elements.

The player takes on the role of the Prince again, who this time has nothing to do with anything we have seen in the past. Using familiar moves, the player must climb wherever they find, confront every enemy, and unlock all the secrets to enhance their character. The story brings him face to face with the army of the Hun, which has brought darkness to the royal family and the palace. The gameplay offers classic wall run moves to climb up, while the hero attacks opponents with kicks and punches, as well as weapons found along the way of the story.

Thanks to a medallion he wears around his neck, he can resurrect every time he dies and start his effort again and again from a hub called Oasis. There he will have the opportunity to talk to his allies, as well as to change weapons and strategies before trying again and again. Since we are talking about a roguelite game, it is given that you will lose several times, so this area will be among your... favorites.

Regarding weapons, I had the opportunity to try battles with swords and blades, but also with the use of a shield that changes the approach considerably and gives the player the ability to vary in battles, depending on how they prefer to plan. As he progresses in battles, he will receive rewards to enhance the hero through new medallions, while in many places there are scattered treasures that, when opened, offer significant amounts that can then be spent to purchase equipment.
