Friends to lovers trope: 3 books to choose from

Friends to lovers trope: 3 books to choose from

One of my favorite tropes in romantic books is [besides enemies to lovers obviously], friends to lovers, meaning that the protagonists were first friends before falling in love.

I find it very sweet as an idea, and overall I prefer it because they have a beautiful connection between them.

So, some of the books I loved were the following:

[1] "People We Meet on Vacation" by Emily Henry from Dioptra Publications

Άνθρωποι που Συναντάμε στις Διακοπές

Two inseparable friends

Popi and Alex have nothing in common. She loves adventure and works as a travel writer based in New York. He prefers to stay at home with a good book and is a high school teacher in the small town where they grew up. And yet, these two completely different people understand each other perfectly.

Ten summer trips

All started their first year at university, when they accidentally took the return trip home together for summer vacation. Since then, for a decade, they have had the tradition of spending an adventurous week of vacation together. Until two years ago, when everything was destroyed... Since then, they haven't spoken again.

A last chance to fall in love

Popi has everything she has ever wanted, but still feels empty. The last time she felt truly happy was two summers ago, on that fateful trip with Alex. And even though everything went wrong in the end... With this in mind, she decides to encourage her friend to take another trip together. Miraculously, he agrees. They have one week to fix everything. But first, she will have to admit the truth to herself. What could go wrong?

Popi and Alex. Two completely different & completely opposite people, who become best friends. For the past 10 years, they have the "tradition" of going on vacation together every summer, and having a great time. Until one summer, something happens that causes them to lose contact for 2 years. Now, after some time, they make another attempt for a trip, hoping it will be like old times. What could possibly go wrong?

I took it with me on vacation and it was exactly what it needed to be. Easy to read, sweet, happy, and with its little messages.

"This captivating happiness, the feeling that this is the meaning of life. To be somewhere nice with someone you love."

The narration is divided into present and past, allowing us to see the journeys the protagonists have taken and what they have experienced together. It may not have had a thrilling plot in general and could have had fewer pages, but I liked it quite a bit, and it touched me as well.

An ideal choice!

Sam and Persi, best friends since they were 13 until their friendship evolved into something more, into a love that someone experiences only once in their lifetime. However, like in every such love story, something ruins it, and that's when you see if it's worth trying or not. The two protagonists, due to an incident, go years without talking, until they meet again. Will their love be greater than their past mistakes?

Another book that makes you feel like you're watching a movie. Sea, games, love, drama, tears, mistakes, etc. No matter what, there are moments in our lives when we want to read something that will relax us and make us smile. This book manages to do that. Simple beautiful writing, likable characters even if you disagree with what they do many times, medium-sized chapters, childhood friends to lovers trope, and carefree summer vibes. What else do you want? The only thing I regret is not reading it in the summer.

[3] "Broken Hearts" by Colleen Hoover from Dioptra Publications

Having lost her mother to an overdose, Begia is practically homeless so she resorts to the worst solution, which is to contact her father. This is how she ends up in a large, clean seaside house, completely out of her element, with a family she doesn't even know. But she meets Samson. A boy who seems to have it all. Money, friends, happiness, a normal life. Things she never had. However, something inside her tells her that maybe he's not what he seems. A voice whispers to her that maybe he's another wounded heart, like herself.

Hoover's writing is always light, and her stories are like movies, resulting in her books being sold out in 1-2 days. That's what happened with this one. I really liked the story, I didn't find it heavy at all and it gave off completely summery vibes. However, beyond the light side, there is also a deeper one. This book talks to us about two people who don't trust anyone. Who have learned to be alone. Who no one has ever seen. Until they met and completed each other's souls like pieces of a puzzle. Against every difficulty, every class difference, and every belief. Don't we all want to be loved?

"-What fills the holes in the soul? -The pieces of someone else's soul."

Don't ask me if it's worth it, it's obvious. Especially for those looking for something that can be read quickly.
